First off I have to say that I've only discovered HISTORY recently, and even though I like them I don't know a lot about them yet. To all the STORIAs out there, I hope I'm getting the names right but if I'm not then please tell (politely guys, I'll be looking at their profiles and the teasers constantly while writing this but I might make a mistake).
This MV really intrigues me, the storyline behind it seems like it could be interpreted in many different ways, so I've just gone with the first interpretation that came into my head. The MV also has some performance parts in it but since they don't contribute to the storyline I won't be referring to them. Except to say, them abs though!
It starts off with an old woman sitting in a chair, handing an old fashioned key to a young girl. We then see the girl clutching the key to her chest, this scene suggests to me that she is being given an important task by the old woman. She then walks up some stairs and opens a room where Sihyoung is standing, frozen, with his hand covering his face, leaning against a pool table. The girl touches his hand and there's a momentary flashback to him looking happy with a girl. The same then happens to Jaeho, Yijeong (who really reminds me of Teen Top's Niel for some reason! Possible bias on the horizon? I think so), Kyungil and Dokyun.
However, things don't remain all rainbows and happiness. The girl then pulls a dust cover off one of the paintings, which symbolises opening or uncovering the memories they're keeping hidden in the depths of their mind, and we start seeing scenes where the flashback girl is trying to leave the guys and they're trying to force her to stay, which doesn't work.
We're then brought back to the present where the girl picks up a picture from the floor of Yijeoung's room, which – partnered with the touching of their hands/shoulders – I think represents her taking these bad memories from them so that they can be free. We see some final flashback scenes and then return to the present where the guys are slowly dissolving in a way that's reminiscent of distressed spirits being set free and moving on to the afterlife. I think this is what the girl was originally tasked with since she walks away at this point so they can move on in peace. We're then shown a final image of the flashback girl (is it just me or does she look like Park Shinhye?) wearing black and crying to symbolise the final mourning of the guys and all the happy memories she had with them.
I came across this video by chance one day because I'm subscribed to 1theK’s YouTube channel and watched it because I've enjoyed watching HISTORY’s MVs in the past (Psycho is my favourite). I immediately wanted to pick apart the storyline for one of these posts and I really enjoyed writing this because the storyline is so interesting. Good job to the creative directors who worked on this and thank you to HISTORY for pulling it off so flawlessly, I promise I'll try to remember your names so I can eventually call myself a STORIA.
